Palestinian Ministry of Health launch vaccination campaign

On Monday, May 16, the Palestinian Ministry of Health launched round one of a polio vaccination campaign targeting all children under age five in the cities of Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
 
Mozambique – a new Wild Polio Type 1 Case was reported in Mozambique this week.  The genetics of this virus has been linked to the previous WPV1 case in Malawi.

Ukraine

Thanks to all of you who made a donation to The Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund to support Ukraine.  Your funds will be used to help the over six million refugees fleeing their homes in Ukraine.  A total of over $15 million was donated by Rotarians worldwide prior to April 30, 2022.  Ninety Disaster Response Grants totaling $2.4 Million have already been distributed.

2021 Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Cases -688 in 22 Countries.  2020 Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Cases – 1,110 in 26 Countries

New Polio Cases & Samples This Week – Chad – 1 cVDPV2 Case, Mozambique – 1 WPV1 Case + 3 cVDPV2 Samples, Niger – 1 cVDPV2 Case + 2 cVDPV2 Samples, Nigeria – 3 cVDPV2 Cases + 5 Samples, Togo – 1 cVDPV2 Case.  

A total of 1,110 Vaccine Derived Polio cases were reported in 26 countries in 2020.
